FAQ - Autoimmune & Gastrointestinal Disorders

Every 2nd Friday of the month I will be addressing a frequently asked question that I get from my patients as it pertains to Autoimmune and Gastrointestinal disorders.

What are Autoimmune Disorders?

Autoimmune disorders, as the name suggests, are disorders whereby the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the healthy tissues of the body.  There are many, many autoimmune disorders; Medline Plus claims there have been over 80 different types identified! Common types include Sjogren’s, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, Type 1 diabetes, and celiac.  March is Autoimmune Diseases Awareness Month. There is much that can be done to support you or someone you know who suffers from an autoimmune disorder.
